2018 gift guide: parents/best friends/boyfriend....
Updated: Jun 18
As Christmas and other winter holidays are quickly approaching, I thought it could be helpful to put together a gift guide for you all so that you can be prepared for your last minute Christmas or holiday shopping. I have gift ideas that are perfect for siblings, friends, boyfriends, stocking stuffers and more!
Gifts for your family:
This can be a hard one I know because you want to get something meaningful and special, but you don't want to break the bank buying something for them. Here are a few things they will love and are affordable for a high school or college student.
1. A framed photo of the family/ Photo album
Parents love sentimental things and my mom is always telling me that she loves things from the heart, so this is a really easy yet adorable gift to give your parents. Print out a picture of your family all together- maybe on a special vacation you all took together, from your graduation, or other event and buy a pretty frame for it. This gift literally takes less than five minutes to assemble and your parents will love it. Top it off with a card about how much they mean to you and trust me- you got yourself a winner.
You can also be more elaborate and make a photo album with some of your favorite pictures of all of you together. This takes a little bit more time, but it is a super sweet gift that will mean a lot to them.
2. Cards Against Humanity
This is such a good one if you have a bigger family, or are spending Christmas with a bunch of people. This game is so much fun, and while there may be some awkward moments when your parents get a very inappropriate card- it is so worth it to see everyone laughing about how ridiculous the cards are. If your family is into social media, you can even get What Do you Meme, which is basically Cards Against Humanity but with memes.
3. Movie Projector
If your family is into family movie nights, this gift is perfect for them. You can turn your living room into a theatre with this projector that does not take much room or brain power to set up. Pop some popcorn, get out a bunch of warm blankets, and you have the perfect activity for those cold winter nights during Christmas break.
Gifts for mom
1. Get her a gift card to a spa where she can have a day of total relaxation for herself. Or you can buy one for yourself so you can have a mom day together- which will probably mean a lot to her.
Recommended spas in LA:
- Heyday (for facials)
- The Spa at the Four Seasons Beverly Hills
- Larchmont Sanctuary Spa
- The Now (if you want to get your mom a gift card to a massage salon)
2. Homemade Gift- 50 things I love about you jar
I did this for my mom one year and while it did take some time, the reaction on her face when she would open a new note everyday was priceless. Let's be honest- our moms do so much for us, so this is a really good way to show them that we do notice all the little things they do for us every day. Get a mason jar, and just start writing down things you love about your mom. You can even combine this idea with your sibling so it can make it easier to complete the jar. Decorate the jar with some ribbon and a sign you are done, it is super easy! This obviously could be done for your dad as well.
3. Fleece pullover
My mom is always cold. Literally always. I also don't really know anyone who wouldn't want a super soft pullover to wear during the winter. North Face and Patagonia make really warm ones that aren't bulky or ugly. Pick her favorite color if she loves wearing colors, or stick to neutral tones if she normally wears navy, grey, black, and white a lot!
Gifts for dad
Dads are hard to shop for, so here are some easy gifts if you don't know anything specific that he wants.
Everyone drinks water so you really can't go wrong with this gift. You can put both cold and warm drinks in here and they will stay at that desired temperature for hours, so I think this is a good gift if your dad brings coffee to work, is always drinking water, or constantly buying water bottles (which is really really bad for the Earth). They come in a variety of sizes and colors so I'm sure you can find one that works for your dad.
If your dad can rock a beanie, definitely consider getting him one for Christmas. This can be a complete joke and you can get him a really funny one, or one that he can actually wear. My mom and I got one for my dad one year and literally wouldn't stop wearing it. Also, if your family goes skiing or to a cold climate for Christmas, this is a great gift for those chilly winter nights.
3. Work out Clothes
I feel like dads are always in work out clothes, so why not add to their collection. It can also be motivation for your dad to go to the gym/work out since we all know the holiday season can be harsh on the dad bod. Get him a new work out tee/shoes/shorts and you really can't go wrong.
Gifts for sisters/best friends
1. Monogrammed Cosmetic Case
Most girls wear makeup and need a place to put all their products, so this adorable monogrammed makeup bag is a great gift. It comes in two different colors and every single letter in the alphabet.
2. Earrings/ Ear Cuffs
You can't go wrong with getting your sister or best friend a pair of beautiful earrings. Here are my top picks, and I also added earring cuffs because I think they are really cool since you don't need a piercing for them!
(In order of photos)
3. Calvin Klein Set
When I'm wearing a matching bra and underwear set I feel so put together, and not only are these sets not too pricey but they are good quality and super cute. They are comfortable, cozy, and any girl would love receiving this.
1. Air Pods
Depends on how much you like the person since it is a little pricey. I think anyone would love these and they make a perfect Christmas present.
2. Anything Patagonia
I have yet to meet a guy who does not like Patagonia. I have seen guys spend 500 dollars on Patagonia clothes just because, so just do them a favor and get them something from there. Here are some of my top pics.
(In order as photos)
A new wallet is always nice, and I feel like guys do not get a new wallet as often as they should. Wallets can be personal gifts so I would opt for something really simple so they like it- don't get them anything crazy unless you know they want it.
Stocking Stuffers: Here are my top picks for stocking stuffers!
Mario Badescu Facial Spray Set
This is an amazing stocking stuffer for any girl. It is filled with soothing herbs and can be heated or cooled. This is perfect for cramps or when you need to cool down after a workout. Plus look how CUTE the animals are!
There you have my gift guide for 2018! I hope you find this helpful and are able to use some of these as presents for your friends and family.
